The EWB South Australia (SA) Region Chapter is in an exciting time of growth and opportunity. We are a passionate committee that participates in mobilisation projects, engages with corporate partners and explores new areas to engage our Chapter members. We have a wide range of initiatives you can be part of, which include mentoring, remote volunteering, fundraising, and professional development opportunities. We are expanding our capacity and always looking for new members. Our best asset is our volunteers, so please get in touch with us to find out how you can get involved!
EWB Australia acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past and present, and know that this land was never ceded. We respect their stories, their wisdom and knowledge systems, and their ongoing deep connection to land, water and community.
Jimi is a Mechanical Engineer looking to decarbonise across many different industries as fast as possible. He has been involved with EWB as a Field Professional in Cambodia in 2017 with RainWater Cambodia and the Sanitation in Challenging Environments team. He was a Design Summit Mentor in 2019 with team Lady Finger Banana in Cambodia before getting involved with the committee in early 2020.
Kevin is a Mechanical Engineer working in the energy industry. His work enables him to be part of an industry that are global leaders in the use of renewable energy. During his undergrad Kevin was involved in the EWB Bendee Downs renewable energy project on Kooma Country (QLD). Kevin joined the SA chapter to help the wider community through engineering and to build EWB’s presence in SA.
Jeet is a Mechanical Engineer working in the resources industry. He is always obsessed with any form of transport, especially trains, planes, and ships. He also had a keen interest in business finance so I ended up studying for a double degree in finance.
Michael is a Technology Reliability Engineer. He is always looking for ways to improve systems and efficiency, taking the load off of people. He enjoys new challenges, building from the group up.
Within the Corporate Galvaniser space, the SA Chapter has been coordinating with Aurecon and Arup for attendance of events and two way support for various initiatives. Moving forward we will also be looking to expand into the Outreach space with the corporate partners.
On country engineering projects for remote communities. The engineering on Country program allows us to bridge the gap between community stakeholders and our corporate partners to ensure community needs are understood, and a practical, culturally appropriate solution can be delivered.
The SA Chapter supports the Mobilisation Program by onboarding volunteers, sharing volunteer opportunities, and managing projects. To date, the SA Chapter has been involved in a number of technology development projects, such as: BirthWatch, Managing Drainage Waters in Vanuatu, and Energy Access Cambodia.
The chapter conducts study tours and workshops with students and professionals to learn about the practical uses of technology to improve the lives of others. Workshops provide participants with networking opportunities to hear like-minded perspectives on the future of engineering.
National Volunteer Week is a chance for all of us to recognise the vital work of volunteers and to say thank you.
Each year the Danny Awards, named after EWB founder Danny Almagor, recognises those in our volunteer network who have made an outstanding contribution to EWB’s mission.
Our first year of activating our mobilisation strategy has created more opportunities for volunteers and more support for communities.
The SA Region chapter runs many events each year. To get involved with the next event, visit our Linkedin page.
